Offbeat Holiday Celebrations…Breaking Tradition

kcs_6ca5975fOverflowing mailboxes are a common sight this time of year. Family, friends and businesses all want to send their holiday wishes, leaving people flooded with stacks of cards and letters. Traditionally, companies send out their annual letters of gratitude during the year-end holidays, but they end up being just one tiny snowflake on the big pile of snow. Even if you try to host an event for customers, it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to fit you in their schedules among all the school programs and holiday parties.

We suggest that you break with tradition. Why thank your customers now when you could claim your very own company holiday? Stepping outside the bounds of this holiday season means you won’t have to compete for attention, and the unconventional approach will make your business memorable. Here are a few ideas for offbeat holiday celebrations.

Valentines Day
What better holiday to express your undying love for your customers than Valentine’s Day? Woo them by sending a beautiful valentine card or a box of chocolates. If you really want to up the romance, include two ticket vouchers from your local movie theater.

St. Patrick’s Day
No Irish heritage required. Consider mailing out promotions on shamrock-shaped cards or hosting a social media contest for the best photo of a leprechaun lookalike. If you really want to go all out, move the party down to the local pub for your 21-and-older patrons. Irish musicians and traditional food will certainly make them feel lucky.

4th of July
Plan a star-spangled fireworks event for your customers. You can put together your own show if you have the location and the funds, or you can capitalize on a local fireworks display. Place blankets on the ground to reserve prime viewing spots for your guests and start the party early by offering tasty picnic food.

National Waffle Day
Because who doesn’t love waffles? Make August 24th special for your customers with a delicious breakfast treat. Host a catered event with a waffle bar (fruit, sprinkles, whipped cream, chocolate chips) or send out gift cards to a local waffle house. You can’t go wrong, because either way there will be waffles.

Fun on the 4th: Celebrating Independence Day

Independence Day is upon us – here are some ways
to celebrate our freedom…

March in the 4th
Hometown parades and festivals are a easy and adventurous way start to the day. It’s an opportunity to relax and celebrate our freedom with family, friends and neighbors. Watching the floats and gathering treats thrown from the them is always a favorite with the kids.  Here are some celebrations in our area: St. Louis, Hazelwood, O’Fallon, Ellisville, Kirkwood, Alton IL, Alhambra, Webster Groves, Columbia MO, Ferguson

The Great American Cookout
Picnics and barbecues are a great way to bring people together. With a menu of hamburgers or hot dogs, watermelon, corn on the cob, apple pie and ice cream you have the recipe for success. Make sure you can enjoy the party too. Keep the menu simple and ask the guests to prepare side dishes to lessen the load and add variety to the table.  Don’t forget to decorate with Independence Day colors!

Sun and Fun
Whether your boating, swimming, fishing, camping or just enjoying the great outdoors – a day spent with family and friends can be a great way to lull away the hours. Pack a picnic or start up the grill and get out there! Just don’t forget to pack your sunblock and bug spray along with the barbecue sauce.

Red, White and Boom
In most cities and towns, fireworks are a grand finale to the day. After a day spent pool side, walking together to a nearby park to watch the fireworks, recognizing our nation’s independence is a great way to end the day.  Add up the fun and count the fireworks to see how many are lighting up your night sky.

A Day Away
Taking a mini-vacation over the holiday is appealing to many. Spend time swimming, playing and enjoying summer foods. It’s a time  to get away and celebrate even if it’s just a day or two.  Visit family or friends in another town, go camping at a local campground, or just take a short road-trip to see something new will help create some exciting adventures for your group.  Just don’t forget your camera!

Remember the Reason we Celebrate
Read the Declaration of Independence and try to put yourself in Thomas Jefferson’s shoes as he wrote it.  Thank a troop, they are the ones keeping us free.  Sing some patriotic songs and get in mood for Freedom!

Have a safe and fun holiday!
